Nanjangud Trip

The beautiful high rise Gopuram in the temple entrance

Inspired by this very holy place visit & its history I wrote this poem...

River Kapila/Kabini in front of temple premises where devotees take bath before visiting temple

The front entrance Gopuram , Garbhagudi Gopuram & the procession chariot

Big beautifully carved pillars in the entrance

Big bull ( Basava) idol in the front of the temple

The inside premises view

Attempt No.1 Needed a lot of caution & patience for this one

Attempt No. 2 - GOT IT!! Finally it opened its wings at the right time CLICK!!

Tried from a different angle now.

One more snap

Two of them busy with flowers

A non functional fountain on the passage way to temple

A 50-feet concrete Shiva idol being constructed near by temple

In front of Mysore Palace

Flowers in front of palace

Pradeep Raja Wodeyar!! Ha Ha Ha!!

  1. Srikanteshwara Temple - 3 Stars
  2. Parashurama Kshetra - 0 - No stars
I searched on Internet for places to visit before leaving & an article on wikipedia told a lot of hi-fi things about Parashuraama kshetra but it was disappointing when I visited the temple. The name of the temple sounds big but its actually a small hut sized temple awkwardly painted in red. Its 1.5 kms on NH212 from Srikanteshwara temple towards kerala direction. It was said river Kaundinya joins Kabini/Kapila here but all I could see was a small channel of dirty water flowing in front of the temple!! Disgusting!! a lone old woman was selling flowers & also the Salt+Jaggery combination which is supposed to be put in river by devotees for washing away their sins.
